French Oak wood – Origins & Unique taste

As  French oak is regarded as one of the best European oak for solid timber flooring. Below is the explanations of French oak of different regions.It will help us to understand the quality of French oak.

1.Limousin Oak

Named after old province of South West Part in France, belong to species Q.pendunculata, where is mountain area with steep road, the earth composite with granite, sandstone lime as well as iron oxide substances. Local oak forest wide spread, the tree is low and bulky with coarse wood fiber & great hardness.

2.Nervers Oak

Named after city NERVERS located in center parts of France, where is hill & gentle slope area with fertils earth that nourish thick & luxuriant oak forest. Most of tree grows very tall. It belong to Genus. Q.sessillis.The oak texture is hard , dense & fine texture as well as excellent resilience.

3.Allier Oak

This forest area close to South NEVERS,equivilant to NEVERS Oak on quality.

4.Troncais Oak

This species is the most outstanding oak from Allier.In Frecn history of 17th century,it served for royal french ship building lumber.The wood grows up from the most fertile earth in France,trunk of Troncais Oak tree up to 25m,fantastic fine wood textures and resilience.With limited production volume ,it serves top quality french wine barrels industry with great fame.

5.Burgundian oak

Located in Citeau of Cte d’Or ,it is similar to Limousin Oak.

Apart from above mentioned regions,there are some other place like Huat-Marne,Cher,Indre,Indre-sur Loire and Vienne etc where is famous for high quality European Oak.

Comparing french oak with American oak, (2,3,7,8-tetrahydroxy benzopyrano5,4,3一cdebenzopyran-5,10一dione) content inside of French oak is much higher than American Oak, while American oak gives out more fragrant smell because of high non tannin compositions (21%), while limousin oak only 14%.
